Mick Hanly

Born in Limerick, singer-songwriter Hanly was inspired by mid-50s rock ‘n’ roll and the Liverpool beat group scene of the Sixties. He soon turned his attention to American folksingers such as, Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, and emerging singer songwriters, Paul Simon, James Taylor and Canadian songstress, Joni Mitchell. However, on first hearing Planxty he immediately fell in love with this fresh take on Irish traditional music. Together with Michael O’Domhnaill (ex Skara Brae) he formed Monroe, and supported Planxty on their 1973 tour, subsequently releasing Celtic Folkweave on the Polydor label. The album subsequently became a seminal album in the folk lexicon and was remastered and released, on vinyl and on cd, by Universal Records in 2022.
Hanly went to France for two years, and, on his return to Ireland, recorded two acclaimed solo albums for the Mulligan label with Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine and Declan Sinnott. A Kiss in The Morning Early and As I Went Over Blackwater. He then toured Ireland and Europe with Andy Irvine, who had recently left Planxty. In 1981, Hanly joined Moving Hearts as a vocalist, and contributed his own songs to the album Live Hearts. Hanly left the band fourteen month later to concentrate on song writing. He went solo again and recorded three more contemporary albums with Ringsend Road Records. His album All I Remember spawned the song Past the Point of Rescue, which was a huge hit in the US for country singer Hal Ketchum. The song received the BMI award for Two Million Radio plays in the US.
Mick Hanly’s songs have been covered by Christy Moore, Mary Black, Dolores Keane, Delbert McClinton amongst others, and he continues to write with a freshness and vitality that few can match.
His latest album is called Marathon. Recorded in Gaf Studios and produced by Donal Lunny. Mick is joined by some of Ireland’s most respected musicians, Eoghan O’Neill, Dave Keary, Ray Fean, and James Delaney.

In 2024 Mick will be touring with the guitarist Anto Drennan and bassist Eoghan OʼNeill.
EOGHAN OʼNEILL

In a career spanning fifty years as a bassist Eoghan OʼNeill has recorded and performed a large and varied cross section of contemporary music. He was a member of the original version of the highly acclaimed Irish music crossover band Moving Hearts and his playing with this band got him noticed as a session player.

His credits range from people as far apart on the musical map as Tammy Wynette, Terence Trent DʼArby. During the eighties he recorded five albums with British songwriter Chris Rea including the massively successful “On the Beach”. Eoghan was a member of the original Riverdance Orchestra and held the post of musical director in the U.S. touring show (The Lee Company) until it was disbanded. Since then, he has been playing on, and producing albums. Among these are two productions for Celts Heritage star Dan ar Bras, and Breton legend Gilles Servat. He worked with Celtic Woman as bassist and touring musical director for thirteen years, which ended in 2016. Eoghan continues to play with Moving Hearts, Mick Hanly and many other friends.

                                                                 Anto Drennan

Dubliner Anto Drennan has been a permanent and much sought after guitarist on the Irish music scene for decades. His ability to fit into any genre has been his main calling card - from Moving Hearts, Clannad, The Corrs, to Paul Brady….all have benefited from the colour he brings to the overall sound of the band. Further afield, he’s played and toured with Genesis, Chris Rea, Mike & The Mechanics, and many more.

Apart from his musical gifts, his secret is that he loves to play. The size of the audience…be it 20.000 or 20 doesn’t bother him if he’s in good musical company. The list of his album credits is
a mile long - Ronnie Drew, Terence Trent D’Arby, Davy Spillane, Moya Brennan, et al.

Ireland has produced many wonderful guitar players over the years and Anto Drennan is special.

Eoghan O’Neill and Anto Drennan will be touring with Mick Hanly in 2024.
